The announcement that had BlackBerry fans talking yesterday was Slacker, the internet radio application. We’ve discussed Slacker in the past, noting that you can build your own radio station. That’s the greatest part about Internet radio, at least to me. I have a strange taste in music, and it seems that with the spread of digital music a lot more people are hopping on the bandwagon of eclecticism. Slacker looks to satisfy folks like us.
Slacker station caching, an exclusive feature for BlackBerry smartphones, enables mobile listeners to store favorite stations on a memory card, allowing Slacker music service to play without a network connection while boosting battery life up to 5 times that of streaming playback and enhancing application performance.
So it looks like you might be better off caching in any case. If you have the time, that is. From what I’ve read before, you’ll be allowed six skips per hour, which is a decent amount. Certainly better than not being able to skip.
The service is free, and you can get it by visiting Slacker.com from your BlackBerry device. It requires OS 4.3 or higher. It’s definitely on my list of things to do this weekend.
